ISO 14001 Certification


On March 13, 2002, Hitachi Urban Investment was certified under ISO 14001, an international standard for environment management, by the Japan Audit and Certification Organization for Environment and Quality (JACO). (This certification encompasses the Hitachi Kamakura Building.)

Environmental Policy

Hitachi Urban Investment, Inc. recognizes that the preservation of global environment is one of the most important issues common to all mankind, and that it is a member of Hitachi group aiming for continuous development, and performs environmental activities through its business activities to “contribute to the realization of a prosperous future and progress of the society through the creation of comfortable space”.

Basic Philosophy

We will always be environmentally aware, and strive to protect the environment and pursue better corporate activities.


To preserve for tomorrow an environment friendly to people and society


  1. We will always remain conscious of the environmental impacts of our activities, products and services and promote the prevention of environmental pollution.
  2. We will not only comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations related to our activities, products and services and with other requirements to which we subscribe, but also establish our own voluntary standards when necessary and work to further improve the level of our environmental management.
  3. We will strive to develop and expand environmental-conscious products and services, and contribute to building a sustainable society.
  4. We aim for continuous improvement of our environmental management system.

We will plan, implement and review all the environmental activities based on this environmental policy. We also review the environmental policy according to the business policy and organizational status, etc. to improve our environmental performance. We will communicate the environmental policy to all persons working for or on behalf of our company and disclose it to the public upon request.

Disclosure of our Basic Policy for the Rational Use of Energy (“Basic Policy” hereinafter) in Accordance with the Act on the Rational Use of Energy (Energy Conservation Act)

Hitachi Urban Investment, Ltd. is keenly aware of the implications for society, the economy, our lives, and the global environment of all energy sources, including renewable hydroelectric, wind, solar power, and thermal and electrical energy. Based on the spirit of the Energy Conservation Act,*1 each person working at the Company maintains a keen awareness of these issues and strives to contribute to the efficient and rational use of energy, in accordance with our Environment Policy, in all areas of Company activities.

Act on the Rational Use of Energy

Basic Policy

  1. Reduction Targets
    1. Set a target to reduce energy consumption per unit by 1% annually on a medium- to long-term basis.
  2. Policy on equipment construction and renovation
    1. Plan and introduce equipment with capabilities and functions suited to the scale and use of each facility.
    2. Plan and introduce energy-efficient equipment.
    3. Plan and introduce monitoring equipment to monitor and additional devices to control energy use.
  3. Policy on equipment operations
    1. Strive to reduce the use of fossil energy sources and to increase use of renewable energy; contribute to reducing greenhouse gases and related efforts.
    2. Remain keenly aware of the actual state of energy use; strive daily to reduce energy consumption and promote efficient and rational use of energy in each department and work site.
    3. Help our customers and business partners understand our Environmental Policy and this Basic Policy; soliciting their help in advancing these efforts.
  4. Management structure
    1. Promote energy management at the Energy Management Center, a company-wide energy management organization; periodically review the status of compliance with the Basic Policy and assessments; make changes as necessary.
    2. Ascertain the actual status of energy use at factories and work sites, in shipping, in residences and other buildings, and in machinery and equipment; improve management structures accordingly.

To realize this Basic Policy, we will communicate its content to all personnel working for or on behalf of all Company sections.

Disclosure of our Reports under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s System for the Prevention of Urban Global Warming

The Company has been designated a business operator subject to reporting requirements under the Prevention of Urban Global Warming system, in accordance with Article 8-24 of the Ordinance on Environmental Preservation to Secure the Health and Safety of Citizens of the Tokyo Metropolitan Area and Article 5-20, Paragraph 3 of the enforcement regulation of that ordinance. We continue to take proactive efforts to address global warming.
